IB at Wheeling - As IB PYP educators, we aim to develop highly literate children who demonstrate the traits of the Learner Profile through their actions, creations, and the expression of their thinking and reasoning.
The IB Learner Profile is a set of ideas that can inspire, motivate and focus the work of both teachers and students. The following characteristics define the type of learner our students strive to become:
We envision Wheeling Elementary as a learning community where students use the inquiry process to become knowledgeable, develop intercultural understandings, and become active, caring and lifelong learners. Wheeling Elementary School is a "Community of Learners."
The staff is committed to working with our families to help each and every student reach their potential. Wheeling is an authorized school for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
This program is a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning which provides an international curriculum model that fosters the development of the whole child. At the heart of the program is a commitment to inquiry as a vehicle for learning. Teachers and students use six key questions to structure the six units of inquiry. The themes are:

- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- How we share the planet
