Welcome To Wheeling

Principal's Message:
Dear Wheeling Families:
Welcome to Wheeling Elementary School where we strive to be “A Community of Learners.” I am very excited about the 2011-12 school year! Our staff has been working very hard to get ready for the new school year for all our families.
We will continue to further implement the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, which focuses on inquiry based instruction that fosters the development of the whole child. The IB Learner Profile guides our work as we strive to develop the following characteristics in our students: inquirer; thinker; communicator; risk taker; knowledgeable; principled; caring; open-minded; well-balanced; and reflective.
We continue to focus on standards based planning that will result in improved student learning. This includes our commitment to continue to work on goal setting with students, and providing feedback that helps move students forward. We invite all our families to become more familiar with the standards that guide our work.
Our CSAP results indicate that we are making progress and moving in the right direction. Wheeling’s growth on all CSAP tests increased 5.2%, which was second highest in APS! (the state average was .9% and the district was .3%) Students’ scores improved or maintained proficiency in all test areas in grades 3-5. This is a great celebration for our Wheeling community.
I am very excited for the upcoming school year and working with all of you. I appreciate the fact that you have chosen to be part of Wheeling Elementary School. We will continue to provide your students with rich learning experiences. Please feel free to contact me if you have any comments or questions.

Thank You Colorado Rockies!
Dinger and the Rockies organization came to Wheeling on September 27. The “Make an Impact” program was an exciting assembly for the students to show them how to make an impact on their lives and communities by teaching them the importance of staying in school, refusing drugs, getting involved and respect.
